We Hate To Run

In the world today, one of the biggest issues is civil, human, and migrant rights. There are many organizations and people who are fighting to make it possible for everyone to get treated equally and get the same freedoms. These are a few of those organizations that have a mission to help those people.

Lacey & Larkin Frontera Fund

This organization came about after the co-founders of Phoenix New Times and Village Voice Media, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin, were arrested. The arrest happened on October 18, 2007 by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Not only were Lacey and Larkin jailed, but they were pulled out of their homes in the middle of the night. This all happened because they brought to light the fact that there were documents that talked about the sheriff’s unethical tactics in office. Read more: Phoenix New Times | Wikipedia

Once they were released, they sued on the false arrest and made $3.75 million dollars. This was the startup money for the fund.

This organization helps fund other ones that help immigrants who are being detained or deported that aren’t getting basic human rights. They are trying to make sure everyone gets treated well because immigrants are people too.

The American Civil Rights Institute

The American Civil Rights Institute is a national civil rights organization that was created in 1996 by Ward Connerly and Dusty Rhodes to help educate the public on the harms of racial and gender preferences. It is based in Sacramento, California and focuses on three main areas.

Those are: helping organizations in other states with their attempts to educate the public on racial and gender preferences, helping federal representatives with teaching the public about this issue, and watching and helping with legal action in California, Washington, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, and Arizona. This organization is trying to help change happen by challenging the race and gender preference mentality of people in today’s world.

Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch was established in 1978 and has about 400 staff members. The staff has many human rights professionals, including: country experts, lawyers, and journalists. This organization is known for finding the true facts, neutral reporting, practical use of the media, and targeted support.

Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey are also known for teaming up with many local human rights groups. Each year, they publish over 100 reports on human rights conditions in over 90 countries, as well as producing a lot of coverage in local and international media.

Since this has a lot of impact, the organization can meet with governments, the United Nations, regional groups, financial associations, and corporations to help bring about changes in policies and practices that will help improve human rights and justice around the world.

As you can see, these are just a few of the organizations that are fighting for these rights. They are making a big difference and trying to help as many people have the same rights as everyone else. They know that we are all human and that you shouldn’t be treated differently because you have a different skin color, nationality, or gender.
